How fast can I set up my account and get my investing mapped?

In a matter of minutes, you can do all that you need to do to open an account with us. Just go to “Open Account” upload identification documents and tell us a little bit about yourself. Akru will do the rest to complete the process including doing background checks to fulfil SC and BNM requirements. If there are no issues with the checks, we will notify you. You will usually be able to start investing very quickly, usually within 24 hours. Once your account is approved, go to Goals to get your investing mapped.

What documents do I have to submit when opening an account?

Malaysians just need to upload their MyKad (front and back) while foreign residents their passport.

Why do you have to collect my personal info?

Your personal information is collected primarily for the purposes of verifying your identity, customising your investments (through understanding your investment knowledge, experience and needs) and meeting the requirements of all applicable laws and regulations including those pertaining to anti-money laundering and taxation. You may refer to our Privacy Policy for more information.

Why am I being charged an admin fee?

There is a RM10 admin fee to open an account. This fee will be paid only once and would be used to cover the costs of regulatory requirements including electronic KYC (know your customer). As we are a startup, the passing of such admin fees to the customer will go a long way in helping us maintain your account while allowing us to focus on investing for you. In exchange, we promise to keep our fees low while absorbing all trading costs and give you a product you love using.

What is general risk-profiling?

We ask you a few simple questions about your financial situation and your views about investing that will help us know how to invest in a way that suits you. We also encourage you to do a financial health check every year or so to update any changes in your preferences or situation by revisiting your risk profile.

Do I submit my completed application physically?

No. The application process can be done entirely online.

How old I have to be to get started?

The minimum age requirement to open an account with Akru is 18 years old.

I am not Malaysian, can I open an account?

Yes; anyone can open an account with us as long as you have an account with any bank in Malaysia. We do not accept applications from US persons as defined by the United States Internal Revenue Service. For more information, please visit www.irs.gov.

Can I open an account from overseas?

Yes. Anyone can open an account with us as long as you have an account with any bank in Malaysia.

I'm an American, can I open an account?

Can I open a joint account?

We do not allow for joint accounts at this time.

Can I open multiple accounts?

For security purposes, we limit one account per person. However, you can have multiple portfolios and goals in a single account.

What if my work permit expires? Do I still have access to my account?

Yes, you will still have full access and ownership to your account. Please send us your new permit/ ID for our verification and records.

I have moved. What do I need to do?

If any of your personal details change for any reason, please update your profile

How do I close my account?

We are sad to see you go. If you wish to close your account, please go to Close Account after you login. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any further issues.

Why do you ask the question about which country my bank account is from?

If you wish to transfer funds into your Akru account from a bank account based outside of Malaysia, Malaysia regulations demand us to apply further checks to verify your identity.

How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password online. Go to the login screen and click 'Forgot password'. A link will be immediately emailed to you. Simply follow the link provided on email to reset your password.

How do I change my personal account information?

You can log in to your account online, fill in the relevant sections. You can change or add to your address, contact number, email, designated bank account.

How do I change the bank details linked to my account?

To link a new bank account, go to 'Profile', and click on 'Bank Details'. A two-factor authentication is required to ensure your identity and protect your account.

What happens upon the death of account holder of Akru?

Upon the death of the account holder, the executor is to prepare the required documents and email to us at [email protected]:

  • Copy of death certificate of the account holder
  • Documents to proof / confirm the relationship
  • Letter of Administrator (LA)
